Last weekend we celebrated Hunter's sweet 16, here are some pics from the day.....

Packy's Early Childhood Screening

Like Hudson did 2 years ago, Paxton had his Early Childhood Screening last week. And like Mommy did 2 years ago, I sat quietly behind him, listening to his answers, and got teary-eyed. I swear I must be the weepiest mom there ever was! To make his day a little more extra special, we dropped Hudson and Harlow off at daycare and just mommy and Pax went to McDonald's for breakfast (his choice). I learned a lot about my middle child during that breakfast. Such as; his favorite color is blue, his favorite thing to do at school is play cars, and it would be going to gym but sometimes gym is hard, he loves playing with Hudson and Harlow the same and couldn't pick who he'd rather play with, his favorite games on the iPad are Deer Hunter, Angry Birds, and Hillclimb Racing, his favorite thing to do at home is ride his bike in the garage (pretty sure he said this because he just did it the other day), his favorite movie is Frozen, and his favorite song is "I'm a Freak" by Enrique Iglesias. I realize this is a wildly inappropriate song to be his favorite, and it's even worse when you listen to him sing it, knowing most of the words, but thankfully he doesn't understand what most of it means. Seriously though, I should video tape him singing it, you'd giggle and allow it too!

As soon as we got to the screening, I was blown away. He was doodling as I was filling out forms, and when I looked over, he had written his name PERFECTLY!!! I had no idea he could write his name. This is a child who refuses to sit still to write, draw, color, or do any type of artsy activity for more than 2 seconds. Every time I have asked him to write his name, he gets as far as the P and quits. Even if you ask him if he can write his name, he'd always say no. So I was shocked! And my tears started immediately. And since this was the first time I had seen him do this, I had to take a picture.
The surprises kept coming, as did my pride! A little back story, Hudson did this screening when he was 3 years old. Hudson is the creative one, the intuitive one, the intelligent one, I knew going into the screening that Hudson would ace anything they threw at him. When Paxton turned 3 years old, I opted to wait another year for him to do the screening. Not because I didn't think he was smart enough, but because he's too busy for "learning". It may sound funny, but it explains him perfectly. He just doesn't have time or any interest in letters, numbers, colors, or words. He's wild and physical, and lives in a dream world most of the time. But I was shocked at my boy! So, of course, bring on more tears! In the picture below, the screener had explained the directions to him quickly and then handed over the head phones and assumed he'd know what to do. I sat back and watched thinking he doesn't pay attention to directions, I'm sure he was off daydreaming in his own little world the entire time she spoke. I was wrong! He knew exactly what to do, and he gave me that shy smile that dropped me to my knees. My boy was proud of himself.
As a parent, it's difficult to sit back and watch your child answer tough questions, and maybe struggle to get it right, and when they asked him what color the "red" bouncy ball was and he answered with "green", this mama had to say something. I have always thought Paxton was color blind. He knows all of his colors, but gets red and green mixed up 9 times out of 10. I even think he has taught himself that he sees those colors wrong and knows to answer them the right way. I needed to let the screener know that, so I quietly raised my hand and asked to speak. We'll likely have him tested when he gets into school, as there's nothing we can do about it now anyway.

And my most favorite of his answers that morning- the screener told him to complete the following sentence; "A brother is a boy, so a sister is a ______." And Paxton said confidently, "Well my sister is a toddler." Dang right she is Packy!! Ha. (She asked him again, and said "girl" right away.)

baking brownies

Last weekend, while the boys went out for an afternoon with Grandpa, Harlow and I stayed in to bake. She has always loved helping in the kitchen! She pulls "her" chair right up to the counter to get as close as she can. I say "her" chair, because she moves this particular chair ANYWHERE she wants, to get ANYTHING she wants!! As soon as you hear those chair legs being dragged across the tile, you know you have to run to the kitchen to check what she's getting into. Her current favorite thing to steal is jelly beans that she knows are hiding out of her sight and reach. I've debated removing this chair from the kitchen because it's proven to be quite dangerous, as Grandma just found her STANDING ON the countertop! But knowing my girl, she'll just make do and find something else to climb on top of.

Anyway, back to baking.....we decided on brownies. She poured everything in, did almost all the stirring, and definitely all the licking! And when Hudson ate one later that day, I overheard him say, "Harlow makes really good brownies!" Success.

Happy St. Patricks Day

The kids were asked to wear green to daycare so we green'd it up with the best we had. I asked them to sit together for a picture before we left in the morning. It was early, as portrayed by their tired eyes. Here's what I got- sweetness from Paxton to Harlow, Harlow having a little too much and unleashing her mad face at Paxton, and Hudson just sitting quietly cooperating.

This one kills me! I love her sass.

swimming with these fools

It had been a while since we've gone to the local indoor pool with all three kids, so last weekend that's just what we did. They all love swimming and they're at an age/height that we can let the boys pretty much roam free (in the area they know they can touch) while one of us wrestles with Harlow. She can't touch anywhere quite yet and boy that frustrates her! Thankfully they have a slide that she LOVES going down and does so about a hundred times. She's by far our most fearless child as she has never cared about going under the water, has never been nervous about the slide, and would dive right in if we let her.
These two have made leaps and bounds in their water/swimming skills! Jumping in, diving for diving sticks, flying down the slide without mom or dad waiting at the end, floating on balls far into the deep. They're fun to watch and I'm afraid they might be a little bored with swimming lessons next time around.
They wanted to show me their muscles.....ha! Scrawniest arms I ever did see!
This is usually what I'm dealing with when I ask them to stand for a picture together. For some reason, when I ask Harlow to look at the camera, her entire body tilts. And Pax always has a silly face to show me. I always beg for one nice smile and then they can be the silliest of silly if they want to.
He recently learned how to cross his eyes (taught by his mama) and it's his greatest trick.
This was hilarious because Hudson didn't even realize Harlow's hands were forcing his smile even bigger. I literally almost peed my pants.
And big brother loved it!
These two will give us a run for our money I'm afraid! The older Harlow gets, the more trouble these two get into. They are rambunctious, non-thinkers with a "just do it" attitude and the possible outcomes of their actions scares this mama. But man do they have fun!

scooby-doo weekend

Jamie and I took the boys to see Scooby-Doo Live last Thursday. At the last minute we decided to make it an overnight getaway and stayed the night in a hotel. Two things the boys love; Scooby-Doo and a hotel, so this was a special treat. All done without Sister, she stayed home with Grandma and Aunt Ditty.
Our fun started with a dinner stop at Chili's.
Chili's was Hudson's pick and favorite place to go, all for the corn on the cob!
The boys LOVED Scooby-Doo Live! They paid attention the whole time, waiting for the ghost to appear, and then trying to figure out who the ghost was.
We're big fans!
The next morning we woke up and hopped straight in the pool. They spent every minute they could swimming, with the pool all to themselves.
They played "spy boats" with their spy goggles, swimming in their inflatable boats on the search for fish and sharks. Jamie and I sat back and watched how well they play together, listening to what their little imaginations can come up with. Paxton follows Hudson's every move and listens to his every order. And although they seem to be the best of friends, Hudson definitely takes the older brother role and knows very well that his younger brother will do whatever he says. I can't say enough how thankful I am that they have each other, a built in best friend for life.
We had lunch at the Rainforest Cafe so Pax could see if he was still afraid of the monkeys like he was over a year ago. Nope, he's tough now. I still remember it like it was yesterday, being there with him and he had to sit on my lap the whole time and said, "Mommy, those monkeys are looking at me" in the sweetest little voice. I kind of hate that they're growing up and getting brave.
Our last stop was at Build-a-Bear where they both chose to build a dinosaur. They thoroughly loved doing this and those dinosaurs have become a part of our family now.
Meet Dino and Stompie.
And there's no better way to end a little getaway, then to come home to this sweet girl. She says she didn't miss me, but I'm choosing to believe that she did.
